Choices choices...and not a drop to drink
Posted by Jon Henke

McQ and I wrote two recent posts on the "politics of pragmatism", as McQ called it - ie: the choice between voting for political gain and voting on principle.

Dale Franks points out that we don't necessarily have that choice in this election.....

Apart from actively prosecuting the War on Terror and maintaining the tax cuts, I can't think of a single reason for which I would vote for George W. Bush.

Unfortunately, my choices do not include "idealized domestically libertarian, strongly pro-defense candidate". They include George W. Bush and a quasi-socialist, UN-style internationalist to be named later".

Thanks for the choice.

Jeez, we coulda repealed the 22nd Amendment and just re-elected Clinton and gotten pretty much what we have now.

Well...we'd probably have better trade policy, but I get your point. I'd add two more reasons to prefer Bush....one more important than the other....

1: Probable Supreme Court appointments in the next Presidential term.
2: Atrios, DemocraticUnderground.com, Moveon.org, etc.....

No, if we had elected Clinton to a third term, we'd either still be begging France and the UN to do something or we would possibly have launched pretty much our entire arsenal of cruise missiles into various Muslim territories, resulting in grievous damage to various tents and camel parts.
