Colin Powell makes an important point....
Posted by Jon Henke

Colin Powell.....

"Last year when I made my presentation, it was based on the best intelligence that we had at the time. Now, I think their best judgment was correct with respect to intention, with respect to capability to develop such weapons, with respect to programs."
An excellent point. The judgement WAS largely correct with respect to intent, capability and programs...why does that largely escape attention? It's as if the left side of the blogosphere has missed all of those points. "What's this? He was just funding WMD programs and attempting to buy program-related materiels? What's the big deal?"

If I'm going to stand with you guys to demand an investigation on the discrepancy between claims and reality on the WMD issue, how about you at least admit that Saddam was, you know, pursuing these programs....just not as far along as we estimated.

UPDATE: Dale Franks makes the point somewhat more directly.....

"...to jump from the faulty intelligence--a fault that seems to have been shared by practically everyone--to the "Bush Lied" meme is simply fantasy.

I remain convinced that the Left doesn't hate Bush because they hate the war. They hate the war because they hate Bush. No amount of evidence will convince them that the WMD problem is the result of incompetence on the CIA's part, rather than conspiracy on the part of Bush."

Evidence of his point: Listen carefully for an investigation of the 1998 attack on Iraq, using the exact data and conclusions. If you hear none, then one might ask...what is different? Oh. Right. It's one of those D/R things, isn't it?

Someone pointed out that according to the Left, it's okay to be a murdering, raping dictator as long as you're only pursuing and not actually in possession of WMD.
