Dean, on Janet Jackson (uh, but not that way)
Posted by Jon Henke

Howard Dean weighs in on the FCC investigation into the Boob-tube scandal....

"I find that to be a bit of a flap about nothing," the former Vermont governor said. "I'm probably affected in some ways by the fact that I'm a doctor, so it's not exactly an unusual phenomenon for me."

"In general, I think the FCC does have a role in promoting some reasonable standard of decency," Dean told reporters aboard his campaign plane. "However, considering what's on television these days, I think the FCC is being pretty silly about investigating this."

I'm not so sure the FCC really has much of a choice, considering the public outcry - which, yes, includes the broadcasters involved - but I take his point. Grow up, people. It's a partially exposed breast...and it lasted almost 3 entire nano-seconds. Let the market take care of this. It will...one way or another.

And isn't the free market really the best gauge of "community standards"? (that is, by the way, the gauge by which the FCC determines what is and is not acceptable)

In all the furious tongue-lashing, I've noticed one rather offensive thing has been left largely untouched. Did anybody actually listen to that Janet Jackson song? Gah! It was terrible. I was offended at that.

NOTE: MTPolitics has a different take...

How to divert attention from Michael Jackson's pecker?

Focus it on Janet's hooties.

It's a Conspiracy!

I'm with you on the FCC keeping out of this and letting the market take care of it (hearing that Justin Timberlake may lose his Grammy appearance), but I can't believe you're knocking on Janet Jackson's Rythym Nation song. That was Janet in her prime...1989!

Was that what it was? I thought she'd done something from her new album. The "illiteracy/social justice" stuff.

Just shows how little I keep up with music, I guess.

It still sucked. Imagine this blog, set to a tune. Pontificating musicians generally leave me annoyed.
