Dale,
I used to do stand-up and had a fairly successful sketch comedy group about 6 years ago.

I once wrote a People's Court type sketch involving a character Virgil the Gerbil, who ultimately sued Gere for cruel and unusual (very unusual) punishment.

The rest of the group pilloried me for being "hack". That the Gere/Gerbil thing was really really old.

Bah!! What do they know about art?!!!

Now, in an act of humor defiance, I will ALWAYS chuckle at a good Gerbil-Gere line.

So kudos.

Incidentally, Virgil the Gerbil became a recurring character I would submit at our pitch meetings. He was a Temp and his adventures always centered around the workplace. Not surprisingly, guess who always turned out to be the "evil" boss.

I think the troupe even began to secretly like Virgil when he found himself as a Temp backup singer for the Village People comeback tour.

Anyhow, thanks for stirring up some nostalgia for me!
(and sorry to bore with tales from the road gigs.)

Just don't go posting any Lorena Bobbit or OJ jokes ; )
