But, we're not biased...

You have to love this sentence from a Reuters wire service story about the president's appearances for Memorial Day.

Bush, who avoided combat in Vietnam while serving as a pilot in the Texas Air National Guard, calls himself a war president for his re-election campaign against Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, a decorated Vietnam veteran.

Very important, you see, to toss that sentence into a story about Memorial Day services.

I am (though perhaps should not be) amazed. The story also managed to toss in lines about the "embattled" Rumsfeld and how Iraq has become a "political liability" for the president.

Again, all of this in a story purportedly about the president's activities on Memorial Day. And no mention, of course, about any "political liabilitiles" or other controversy swirling around Kerry, who is presented in nothing but a positive light.

I saw a lot of lines like this in the media this weekend, but most of them were in stories about how the Vietnam Veterans in DC this weekend all hate John Kerry and support Bush. In a story like that the "avoided combat" line isn't too far amiss.

Reuters is a British outfit. (British, as in "BBC"). Consider the source.

What, they couldn't fit an Abu Ghirab reference in there before the 11th paragraph? They must ne slipping.

That reminds me of this Time article post Saturday and covering Bush's Saddam Souvenir. The best line is this one: "The pistol's new place of residence is in the small study next to the Oval Office where Bush takes select visitors after pointing out better-known White House pieces like the busts of Winston Churchill and Dwight D. Eisenhower and a watercolor called A Charge to Keep, which gets its name from a Methodist hymn. The studythe one where Bill Clinton held some of his infamous trysts with White House intern Monica Lewinskyhas become a place where Bush keeps the memorabilia that hold special significance for him."

Well, I would rather have a White House with a mounted pistol rather than a mounted intern.

So there are busts of Ike and Churchill.

One cannot but help speculate, whether in 50 years time these will be accompanied by the likeness of the evil one who liberated Afghanistan and Iraq (for a start) or the good guy who's claim to fame was leaving some stains on the carpet.

'Reuters wire service story about the president's appearances for Memorial Day.'

Folks, you better start getting real vocal. If you don't get the message out, you're going to see a weasel elected to the White House by the media. If you want to see what I'm talking about, the next time you're away from the computer, where intelligent life can be found, and out in public, start up a conversation with the first intelligent looking person you come across. Quiz them about the WOT and the present administration. It's friggin' scary!

Just think, if you only listened to the news (especially CNN, CBS, CNBC, BBC, etc.) for maybe 1/2 hour a day, what do you think your opinion would be? How many people do you think fit into that category? Kinda reminds me of Leno when he goes to the streets with simple questions.

Just a little food for.....ulcers.
