Hang 'em high

Newsweek reports that...

...Chalabi or one of his associates told the Iranians that U.S. intelligence had cracked a secret code system used by the Iranian intelligence service. U.S. political activists close to Chalabi have told reporters in recent days that Chalabi learned about the codebreaking in Baghdad from a drunken U.S. official.
Well, that leaves out President Bush.

This is - as Patrick Belton has pointed out and the Washington Times is alleging - not an entirely clear case....but it is clear that somebody, somewhere, no longer deserves to retain use of their head. And if heads do not roll as a result - if important corrections are not made - it will be time for a reckoning with President Bush.

UPDATE: Paul at WizbangBlog isn't buying the story, as it currently stands, for a variety of reasons.

I buy it, but in a different light.

They brought him in to lend UN "lagitimacy" to the new Iraqi government. The new governement was brokered behind his back. Then they set him up for a fall, so he couldn't "muck things up". Makes sense to me. In fact I kind of admire turning the table on Mr. Chalabi, who was no friend of the US or the Iraqi's.
