So, it's a Kerry/Edwards ticket, is it? It's an interesting pick, but I wonder what, besides the shallow charisma we often look for in our political leaders, John Edwards offers the country. Is it his profound foreign policy analysis?

Heh.

I did see him say, however, that one of his assets was that he was a Washington outsider. Well, I gotta say, being a US Senator/Washington outsider is a hard trick to pull off. Maybe you're still an outsider if you only serve one term. Which is, after all, all he's served in the Senate. And that term isn't even complete yet.

It strikes me that, back in '88, George H.W. Bush made a mistake in picking Dan Quayle for his VP. Quayle, who is, popular conceptions aside, and engaging and intelligent man, wasn't quite ready for prime time. And, After Edwards hideous failure on Meet the Press with Russert a few months ago, you have to wonder whether Kerry is making the same kind of mistake.

It's not a bad choice, you understand, but having a 1-term Senator with a demonstrated lack of knowledgeable depth about the issues being a heartbeat away from the presidency is a little offputting.

And the announcement would've been a little more exciting in Edwards had actually been present. Perhaps he had something more important to do than to publicly accept an offer to run for Vice President of the United States.
