The Kerry's Plan for Iraq
Posted by McQ

It can be summarized in one word: "Secret".

"I've been involved in this for a long time, longer than George Bush," he said. "I've spent 20 years negotiating, working, fighting for different kinds of treaties and different relationships around the world. I know that as president there's huge leverage that will be available to me, enormous cards to play, and I'm not going to play them in public. I'm not going to play them before I'm president."

So ye of little faith, "trust me", he essentially says, "I have it all figured out."

If this doesn't send you screaming into the weeds I'm not sure what will. It says to me he hasn't a clue but he's politician enough to say things which the public wants to hear. Such as:

John F. Kerry pledged Sunday he would substantially reduce U.S. troop strength in Iraq by the end of his first term in office but declined to offer any details of what he said is his plan to attract significantly more allied military and financial support there.

An easy pledge to make, but one which means nothing, absolutely nothing. Does anyone doubt, that if at all possible, the Bush administration plans to do the same?

Kerry seems to feel the violence and lack of security is a problem that will be solved by bringing others into the picture. That's not the problem. The problem is an insurgency aimed at toppling the new Iraqi government. Bringing in French or German troops will do little if anything to quell that. Nor will their presence change the dynamic of the rebuilding process.

The problem has to do with helping the Iraqi government quell the insurgency itself. And there is nothing in particular that France or Germany bring to the table in that regard. Neither have a record of success or expertice to point to in that area.

Why the nebulous nonsense from Kerry? Because if he told you his plan, assuming he has one, he'd have to defend it from scrutiny. And he's just not about to let the little people do that.

Just vote for him, that's you job ... he'll take care of the rest.

Arrogant?

You decide.

the return of Nixon's secret plan to end the war in Vietnam.

That in itself is enough reason NOT to vote for him. ;)

Yet still accomplishing nothing...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Kerry suggest adding troops in Iraq during his address last thursday?

So I guess we all can lower our personel threat level warning to the color mauve, or the color that suits you. Kerry's got a plan.

But I see a potential problem.

What if by some mix up Kerry's "secret plans" become switched during his stop at Wendys. Could it now be possible the Kerry "football" now holds little packets of Wendy's "secret sauce?"

Curt: In answer to your question, no. He promised 40,000 new troops but specifically excluded Iraq:

We will add 40,000 active duty troops, not in Iraq, but to strengthen American forces that are now overstretched, overextended, and under pressure. We will double our special forces to conduct anti-terrorist operations.

So, somehow he's more qualified to be President of the United States than a man with four years of experience at the job? This is why governors make excellent presidents and Senators suck at it. Governors already are in the same sort of position and know what responsibility is, but Senators never have to take the blame for anything, period.
