UPDATE: TrueBlueGal makes us a cake!

________________________________________________________________

I just went back to the old Blogspot version of QandO, and realized....we turn 1 year old today. The first QandO post was 8/29/2003.

Was it a magnificent piece of analysis? A biting insight? A devastating fact-check? Well, not exactly.

First Post Stress.

What to write?
Well, in the absence of ideas, I'll just duck the whole thing by posting this.

That's out of the way.

Clearly, things have improved since then. The move to our own domain--and MovableType--was the start. Most importantly, though, were the additions of McQ and Dale Franks.

And, without getting too maudlin, it cannot be overstated how much I appreciate and enjoy the people who have been reading, commenting, emailing and participating for so long.

At any rate, today marks the 1st Blogiversary of QandO. Expensive gifts Congratulatory links, blogrolling, bookmarking and word-of-mouth advertising are not discouraged.

UPDATE: To the newcomers: welcome. Where have you been? For a good idea of what this blog is about, check this latest weekly roundup of our best posts.

Thank you for providing a must-read blog! May your personal lives be as excellent :)

Happy Anniversary!!

I remember some of those early days. You seem to have had no trouble figuring out what to write. Now...if we can just get the Opinion Journal to spell your name properly...

Congrats! I wish I could remember what the first post that I read here at QandO was about, but I know that it was a good one, because it got me hooked and made me become a daily reader. The addition of McQ and Dale added to the already-high quality of Jon's blog and caused me to become a several-times-a-day-reader over the last couple of months.

Keep up the great work!

bob

P.S. Maybe in honor of your one-year anniversary, you can finally get Instapundit to give you a long-overdue link!

I think I got here on an Instapundit link....of course, that'll take you lots of places. This is one to which I return. Congrats on a memorable year!

I came over here via Cold Fury. It was a link about a post you did on ANSWER. I thought it was so good, I bookmarked it. I still have the link-

Jon's the heart and soul of Q and O and I just want to say thanks to him specifically for letting me be a part of this. Adding Dale has been (no pun intended) the "frosting on the cake". It's, thus far, been a very rewarding experience and I hope we all have many more "blogiversaries'.

I'd also like to say thanks to all the great readers, from all sides of the political spectrum, who choose to read and comment here. For the most part the comments are well done, on subject and add a great deal to the discussion. The debate is good and healthy. It's the immediate feedback we need to know if we've hit the nail on the head or missed badly (something you won't find with the MSM).

I've come to look forward to some of the regular's comments (for instance we went a day once without "shark" commenting and I got worried). Thanks to all of you for choosing QandO. Believe me ... its appreciated.

Congratulations. I've had you bookmarked since your blogroll days, and you're a regular stop. You've also been on my blogroll since I started my own in July. Your stuff just keeps getting better. Best wishes for many more years.

Congratulations.

I went back and reviewed the archives. And what is intereting is how much this blog USED to talk about Iraq. Haven't heard a peep about it a long time.

Could it be because of stories like this one:

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/29/international/middleeast/29province.html?hp

The silence is deafening.

MK: well, no. It's mainly--in my case, at least--because other events have overtaken Iraq in terms of immediate significance. I just don't have a lot to say about the now-relatively minor goings-on in Iraq. (relative to the larger strategic picture, that is)

That's not to say they're unimportant...just that, with the transition towards Iraqi rule, they're more internal problems, and not US problems.

My opinion--we'll see if it's correct--is that situations like those in Najaf and elswhere will not, at this point, be ameliorated by US intervention, or force. There will be a stand-off that ends with political detente. A functioning multi-factional government tends to blunt the ambitions of people like this.

That's how this will be solved. It's unfortunate, but it's not indicative of failure.

Happy B-day! You can thank the little blue cake maker for turning me on to your site, she has ways of getting me to read what she wants *grin*. But I am glad that she did. You all are a good read. Again, have a happy, and may you have many more!
