Yeah. I’ve been watching this 3 ring circus by just looking at the space over at Memeorandum.Everything that is rancid and corrupt with modern journalism: The Nutshell What is most amazing is that he is just now coming to this conclusion. |

Glenn and his Brazilian houseboys are moaning about corruption—-psychologists call it "projection" when you see and complain about something you hate in yourself.
Anyone notice that memeorandum appears to be getting hijacked by leftist overseers, or am I projecting? |

And where do you guys get the idea that Greenwald, or "the left" is just coming to this conclusion now? It has been a constant theme for a long time, certainly since the press so cravenly and uncritically went along with the Iraq War hype.

LouG is right, it is an old theme of Greenwald’s. Of course, he doesn’t actually care that the "media brazenly misrepresents plain facts, feigns ignorance and engages in very un-journalistic cover-ups." He just wants them to carry his line. In fact, he calls the media to account all the time for actually printing the truth. Jon is rather different, he actually would like them to do a good job. |

I’d put if a bit differently Lance. Whereas we want the pertinent facts reported accurately, in spite of the narrative, the left wants their narrative set forth, despite factual discrepancies.
This was driven home when a aquaintance accused both CNN and NYTimes of conservative bias. Why? Simply because neither protraited Israel as negatively as this person desired. |

They gave Walter Duranty a Pulitzer for covering up the Soviet forced famines that killed millions in the Ukraine.
Things really haven’t changed much.
I wonder if Glenn or Wilson or Ellers have denounced Dan Rather yet? |

Jon, it ought to be a federal crime to open a post by directing the reader to plow through three posts by Glenns Greenwald. |

In similar fashion, bains, I guess LouG’s "cravenly and uncritically" means "not as critically as I’d like." I seem to recall a journalist or two questioning our entry into Iraq.
The irony of LouG using inflated and overhyped language to complain about hype is rather delicious. |

Most of the media initially went along with the Iraq war idea. Most of the country was behind the war at the very beginning, and MSM (in any country) rarely goes against something that is backed by most of its viewers, it doesn’t have the guts and its not good for business.
However, once things played out and the country became more divided with regard to the war, the media did what its always done when it could afford to, side with the left.
The fact that they weren’t more questioning of the war in the first place did not result from a rightwing media bias, it resulted from cowardice, or a cautious business model, however you choose to look at it. |

Let me endorse this post and add another thought - unlike with criticism from the right, Joe Klein and his ilk are really stung by criticism from the left. Ignoring Patterico? In LA TimesWorld, who cares! He’s another righty crank who probably got his talking points from Rush Limbaugh or Karl Rove, and anyway our readers don’t care since the broader point - Bush is evil and the war is rotten (or vice versa) is correct.
But when a lefty takes a whack at them, notice the response. Klein wrote post after post trying to set things right. And why he wastes his time I’ll never know - they will denounce him as a right-wing shill from now until eternity (or at least, until it is no longer useful to do so.)
It would be far smarter for the lefty reporters just to ignore "those people" just as they ignore us righties, but I think it really does gall them to have their lib-cred questioned. |

You mean like Mark Halperin "ignores" "you" by going on Hugh Hewitt and begging to be considered part of your team? The way the Washington Post ignored Ben Domenech by giving him ink space on the Washington Post? The way Michelle Malkin is ignored on prime-time television? The way TNR ignored Bob Owens?
Self-deception and victimization fantasy taken to new heights. |

Self-deception and victimization fantasy taken to new heights. More projection from the left. You mean like Mark Halperin "ignores" "you" by going on Hugh Hewitt... There are several lefty media folks that appear on the HH show regularly. There are far more that have appeared only once or twice. Almost without exception, they do just Maguire suggests, namely summarily discarding any criticism of the media because it comes from Hugh e.g. the right. There are very few that take consideration of, and even fewer that see merit in that criticism. The way Michelle Malkin is ignored on prime-time television? Talking about just FNC, Malkin’s face time is a miniscule percentage of the total programing. It drops even more when you consider all of cable; that becomes almost non-existant when talking about all of television, prime-time or not.The way TNR ignored Bob Owens? So glasnost, please show where TNR has published any of Owen’s work, or honestly responded to his questions/criticisms.
I’m sure if any rightie were to try against the left, the "exception proves the rule" logic as you seem to be doing here, you’d be crying foul. And isn’t it exactly this forensic hypocrisy and intellectual dishonesty Henke was pointing out |
